The Vikings our sister society were the host society for Hastings 2006,
2207 re-enactors from across the world helped to restage the event that
was a defining moment in English history.
Re-enactments on the actual battlefield in Hastings take place every
year, but this was the largest restaging so far. AWS managed all the press

1066 Country – October 2004
Video for website, AWS provided warriors, battle and living history
for photographs and short video for a website. The theme was the night
before the Battle of Hastings.
Combat Club for Lupus Films - October 2004
Children's television programme. Expert and 3 other combatants provided
to teach Glima (Viking) wrestling to children. Two authentic fights were
demonstrated and filmed on location, a swamp and castle. The re-enactors
were required to repeat parts of the wrestling, in order for the film
crew to obtain the shots that were necessary. A Viking fight, demonstrating
the Dane axe was also shown. Children were taught how to fight in the
Glima style and interacted with the Vikings throughout the filming. In
addition skills were shown, including axe throwing.
Chain Male for Frigid films - May 2004
Produced by the award winning Christin Cockerton, this short film is being
shown at all major European film festival - AWS provided 20 participants
over 2 days to provide battle backgrounds and small living history for
short showcase film. Expert advice from a fight co-ordinator was given
to actors , to enable them to take part in action shots. Expert advice
also given on how to shoot specific shots
Iceland Express - company marketing May 2004 for launch of new
routes
20 Viking warriors in authentic costume were provided for an Iceland airways
PR event. To mark the launch of their twice daily flights to London, the
Vikings were driven around London in an open top bus, including a visit
to the Icelandic embassy with the event culminating at the Tower of London.
It resulted in coverage in national papers and on national television.

A warrior in full chain mail, helmet, sword and shield was provided for
a days photo shoot. The resulting photos were used in media advertising
and company literature and has become a core part of the company’s
image.

he was making the advertisement for his morning programme. First shown

The Battle of Orgreave 2001 Event Plan
Extras, including a number experienced in working with mounted combatants,
supplied for the re-enactment of The Battle of Orgreave - when the miners
and police clashed during the Miners strike of the 1980s. AWS supplied
both miners and policemen (in hired costume) and also experienced marshals
capable of stewarding a large event

and a re-enactment co-ordinator for 2 days filming

Filmed in the Isle of Man, West Stow village and Karmoy, Norway. AWS provided
costumed combatants and villagers. Included scenes filmed on long ships
on the Irish Sea.

AWS provided between 1 and 80 (av. 40/day) combatant and costumed extras
over 20 days shooting in North Wales, together with the services of a
re-enactment co-ordinator

AWS trained, costumed and outfitted Ainsley Harriot, the programmes "roving
chef" in order that he might take part in the Battle of Hastings
re-enactment staged by English Heritage at Battle Abbey in October 95
(for which the Society also supplied over half the Norman and Saxon foot
warriors plus Norman Cavalrymen)

A programme in BBC1 The Detectives series with Jasper Carrott and Robert
Powell. AWS provided 80 costumed Saxon and Norman combatants; 20 costumed
villagers; 2 dogs and the services of a re-enactment co-ordinator for

A 10 minute film which serves as an introduction to the Royal Armouries
exhibitions in Leeds. AWS provided 20 costumed Viking and Saxon combatants
and 6 costumed villagers for 2 days shooting.
Timewatch: Evidence of Vikings 1995 BBC
A 60 minute documentary in the Timewatch series. AWS provided 20 costumed
Viking and Wendish combatants; 10 costumed villagers, various props, advice
on appropriate locations and the services of a fight director, costume
consultant and re-enactment co-ordinator for 4 days filming.

A 30 minute program in the Ancient Warriors series, later broadcast on
The Learning Channel. AWS provided 16 costumed Viking and Irish combatants
for 2 days filming.
The Normans 1995 Seventh Art Productions
A 30 minute programme in the Ancient Warriors series, later broadcast
on The Learning Channel. AWS provided 100 costumed Norman and Saxon foot
combatants and 6 Norman cavalry; 20 costumed villages: various props (including
some custom made for the production): advice on appropriate locations
and the services of a fight director, costumes consultant and re-enactment
co-ordinator for 2 days filming.

Learning Channel. AWS provided 60 costumed Viking and Saxon combatants;

A 55 minute video in the Campaigns in History series, later broadcast
on The Learning Channel. AWS provided the script, 30 costumed combatants
